EASING THE BURDEN OF LOSS
You can never prepare for the traumatic experience of an unexpected death. The ETU provides members with peace of mind during times of grief, knowing that grants of up to $10,000 are available to assist with funeral expenses for fully financial ETU members and their spouse/partner. Honorary members may apply for grants of up to $4,000.

HOW TO QUALIFY
QUALIFYING FOR THE ETU FUNERAL GRANT
Access to the ETU Funeral Grant scheme is free for all financial members of the union, and their partners, and Honorary members of the union.
Qualifying ETU members can apply to the Board of Trustees for approval of payments to cover funeral expenses.
Funeral insurance plans offering a similar level of cover for expenses can cost upwards of $600 per year.
With the ETU Funeral Grant scheme, there’s one less thing you and your family need to worry about.
How it works
ACCESS FUNERAL GRANTS IN TIMES OF NEED
- The union considers each ETU Funeral Grant application on the basis of need, then refers it to the Board of Trustees for approval.
- The ETU Victorian Branch’s Distress, Hardship, Welfare and Training Trust pays the benefit.
- The ETU Funeral Grant will be paid to the next-of-kin, and has no bequeath beneficiary.

Terms and Conditions:
- To qualify for the ETU Funeral Grant scheme you need to be a financial member of ETU Victorian Branch at the time of making an application, and also have contributed fees to the Branch for the preceding 12 months.
- The ETU Funeral Grant scheme is not available if a member pays their ETU membership dues through payroll deductions.
- Only an immediate family member (spouse or dependant) is eligible to apply for an ETU Funeral Grant.
- An application for an ETU Funeral Grant must be submitted in writing to the relevant ETU Office within three months of the member or spouse’s death.
- Spouse/partner means a person that at the time of the death of the deceased person had a marital or couple relationship with the deceased person. “Marital or couple relationship” means the person was legally married to the deceased or ordinarily lived with the deceased as that person’s husband, wife, spouse or partner on a permanent and bona fide domestic basis. The ETU Funeral Grant scheme is not available upon the death of an ex-spouse or ex-partner.
- Estimated savings are based on flat rate, without regard to age-based premiums offered by some insurers.
- The ETU Funeral Grant scheme is a discretionary payment that may be made upon application by beneficiaries of the ETU (Victorian Branch) Distress, Hardship, Welfare & Training Fund (the Trust) to ETU (Vic) who will assess the application and make a recommendation to the Trustees of the Trust.
