OHS Rep Training

Initial 5 Day OHS Representatives Course

Purpose: The 5 Day OHS Representatives Course will provide HSR's with the skills to carry out their function and a knowledge of:

  • The objectives of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 2004; 
  • The rights, powers and functions of health and safety representatives; 
  • The role and legal responsibilities of employers and employees; 
  • The role of health and safety committees; 
  • The role of the inspectorate;  
  • The application of relevant Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes. 

The Course will provide HSRs with an overall awareness of occupational health and safety for all employees in all industries

The Course will develop the skills of the HSR's to enable them to identify and evaluate workplace hazards and to implement control strategies in the workplace, including:

  • Workplace inspections; 
  • Overview of monitoring procedures;
  • Preferred order of hazard control;
  • Communications and negotiating skills. 
  • Incident investigation;

The Course also provides additional sources of health and safety information. The Course provides an understanding of WorkCover in the context of a preventative strategy.

ETU OHS Representatives Course / Refresher

Purpose: The Refresher 1 Day OHS Representatives Course will update HSRs  with the current  health and safety arrangements in Victoria , including:

  • Updated OHS Legislation 
  • Updated relevant Regulations, Compliance Codes and Guidance Notes. 
  • Specific industry hazards

The Course intends to build upon the awareness of occupational health and safety for all employees in all industries: ie:

  • Hazards specific to the industry eg manual handling and chemicals; 
  • Update in relevant OHS legislation 
  • Specific industry hazards

The Course will update the knowledge of the occupational health and safety representatives to enable them to keep current.
