The Electrical Trades Union has set up a jobs board to ensure that every effort to employ and train local workers on major projects in the resources sector has been exhausted before there is a need to engage temporary foreign labour.
We all understand that at some stage the use of skilled temporary foreign labour will be required to fill gaps in the labour market as they arise but the ETU will be fighting hard to ensure all Australian workers in the first instance are provided with the opportunity to train, upskill or be employed to meet the labour demands of this country.
The jobs board provides data which will be used to convince Governments and Employers that plenty of Australian workers are willing, ready and available to work in the resources sector.
