Metro Trains Bargaining

Metro Trains Bargaining

Metro has offered its infrastructure maintenance workforce a new workplace agreement removing conditions that had ensured a fair and balanced life and work environment. It has also offered wage rises considerably below cost of living increases.

After months of negotiation, Metro has refused to budge and workers have voted to impose bans, as they are entitled to do under the Fair Work Act. The Unions have placed bans on rail construction/projects which will not affect commuters in any way.

Metro Trains is trying to force maintenance workers to work excessive night shifts with no right of refusal. This is a totally unacceptable attempt to turn back the clock!

Current conditions guarantee that members cannot be forced to work night shift without agreement, and no amount of bullying by Metro will force us to surrender that right.

No going backwards

Rail workers have fought long and hard to win the right to civilised working conditions, including the right to reject excessive overtime. Working in the middle of the night, especially in the record cold and wet conditions we’ve had this winter, should only be undertaken in exceptional circumstances. We will never agree to Metro’s demand that it be considered the norm.

What are Metro chiefs hiding?

UK imports, Metro’s management, are on huge packages while the company holds commuters to ransom and tries to drive down workers’ wages and conditions.

We call on Metro to release the top ten senior managers’ earnings for the last financial year. This should include wages, bonuses and, most importantly, side benefits.

After all, Metro is running a franchise which is funded by Victorian taxpayers, and we reckon the public has a right to know!
