ETU Victoria’s 1200 lift industry members have forced bosses to end the culture of unsafe work practices that they had been getting away with for years.
The ETU took the lead in a tight and disciplined campaign initiated by our members and led by their organisers and health and safety officers. The AMWU backed us, and the CFMEU provided on-the-ground support. |
Metro has offered its infrastructure maintenance workforce a new workplace agreement removing conditions that had ensured a fair and balanced life and work environment. It has also offered wage rises considerably below cost of living increases.

The WorkSafe surplus is under threat from the Victorian Government. Premier Ted Baillieu wants to rip out $471.5 million over four years from the WorkCover Authority, known as WorkSafe, so he can balance the State Budget. This money should be used to keep workplaces safe and compensate injured workers. |
